My Festive Favourites #FestivePlaylist

If I mention festive music to you what comes to your mind? "Iiiit's Chriiiistmaaaas"? Over on BritMums, Coca-Cola are asking what everyone's Top 5 Festive Songs are for their #FestivePlaylist so hop on over and join in. There are fab prizes to be won and great Christmas songs to be discovered and remembered.

My list is a little different to the usual because, and this is me being brutally honest, I'm not especially keen on Christmas songs. Bah Humbug! Those classics? They drive me bonkers! Having said that, there are a few that I'm rather keen on..so, without further ado, here are my top 5 festive songs;

The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End)
What a brilliant Christmas song! The Darkness are a bit of a 'guilty pleasure' of mine; they remind me of the sort of music my Dad played to us when we were children. I like the message behind this song, Christmas Day becomes a bit of a bubble where I spend time with my loved ones and as it draws to a close I simply don't want it to end and day-to-day life to resume again.

Lower Than Atlantis - Merry Christmas (Wherever You Are)
A brand new Christmas song released this year. It's a great song, here's hoping it does well in the charts this Christmas!

The Nightmare Before Christmas - What's This?
Possibly my favourite song from one of my favourite Christmas films, The Nightmare Before Christmas. I imagine this is how my Children see Christmas when they experience it for the first time, full of questions and intrigue.

Boney M - Mary's Boy Child (Jesus Christ)
I surprise myself a little with this choice. For a start it's a rather religious song and I am definitely not a religious person and secondly it's not my usual choice of music. But there's something about it that's VERY catchy and I find myself singing along each time I hear it.

Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name Of
My final choice is a bit of a strange one because, technically speaking, it's not a festive song..but hear me out on this one. It reached Christmas number 1 in 2009 which was also the first Christmas we spent as a family with a 3 month old baby Amy and this song reminds me of opening presents with our new family while listening to the Christmas chart on TV. Another reason I chose this song, and I like it so much, is that it reached number 1 through a simple facebook page that was set up to try and make a statement against the constant rubbish x-factor songs that were almost guaranteed the number 1 spot and shake-up the dull pop scene of the time.
